What this worksheet covers
This is a 20-problem sheet — one page to work through, one page of answers to check against. What makes this set particular: all of the twenty problems require regrouping and numbers reach 870. It is written against Common Core 3.NBT.2 — part of Number & Operations in Base Ten in grade 3.
Skills practiced
At this point in the sequence, work in addition is really about the standard algorithm with regrouping. To finish it, a student has to carry or borrow across place-value columns without losing a digit. Fluency, not just correctness, is the target here — accurate and unhurried is the mark to aim for.
How to use this worksheet
Give this one uninterrupted. At grade 3, work in addition is where procedure and recall have to run at the same time, and a page done in fragments hides which of the two is the problem. Ask the student to re-work one missed problem from scratch rather than correcting the answer in place — the second attempt shows whether the method changed.
One mistake to watch for
Regrouping is skipped: 47 + 38 is answered as 715.
Each column is being treated as an independent one-digit problem, with no place-value structure connecting them.
Return to expanded form for a few days and ask what 7 + 8 is worth. Fifteen ones cannot sit in the ones column, and the student can see why rather than being told.
